Nicole Kidman's Weird Seal Clapping At Oscars; Find Out Why She Did It
Nicole Kidman was spotted in the 2017 Academy Awards clapping in a weird way, which inspired memes and reactions on the internet - it was tagged as the seal clap. She was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in "Lion" but Viola Davis took the award home for her performance in "Fences."
Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend
According to The Guardian, while Nicole Kidman really wanted to clap for all the winners announced, she deemed it awkward not to just because of the circumstances. Kidman claimed all of it was done for the jewels she was wearing.
Per The Sun, she was wearing a huge 13.58-carat pearl-shaped diamond ring that was set in platinum. She was also wore 119 carats of diamond in total from Harry Winston, estimated to cost around $7 million dollars. Nicole Kidman just wanted to protect the jewelry from damage, as she had worn them just for the ceremony.
Evaded The Fashion Police?
Nicole Kidman's look generally passed the fashion critics' tastes. On the red carpet, she showed off her nude Armani gown. The highlight though of Nicole Kidman's look was not the diamond ring but the vintage Omega watch straight from the Omega watch museum in Switzerland.
She also accentuated her look with the 18k yellow gold and platinum earrings set with diamonds. Keeping her look classy, was her 1963 cluster diamond bracelet set in platinum, which matched the huge ring she was wearing.
The only minor gaffe happened when a wardrobe malfunction happened on their way to the ceremony. The strap on her gown broke but was quickly fixed. She was accompanied to the Oscar awards ceremony by her husband, country singer-songwriter Keith Urban.
What's Next For Kidman?
Nicole Kidman is set to appear again in another movie this 2017. Entitled "The Beguiled," the movie is directed by Sofia Coppola and scheduled for release this June. The movie features a star-studded cast with Kirsten Dunst, Elle Fanning, and Collin Farrel.
