FC Barcelona Whips Paris Saint-Germain To Book Quarterfinals; How They Mounted One Of Soccer's Greatest Comebacks

Barcelona FC has mounted one of the greatest comebacks in Champions League history in their win over Paris Saint-Germain. Barcelona scored 6-1 versus Paris Saint-Germain in the home game at Camp Nou in Barcelona and recorded the aggregate score 6-5, thereby taking the quarterfinals slot in the home and away format.

Such An Impossible Comeback

According to Fox Sports, Paris Saint-Germain was well on their way to taking that quarterfinals slot coming into Game 2. They had completely dominated Barcelona 4-0 in Game 1. All they needed to do was to prevent Barcelona FC from scoring 5 goals at least or six goals if Paris Saint-Germain made a goal in the second game. But Barcelona, buoyed by the home crowd, played like men possessed and the goal in the third minute shook the Parisian team.

Barcelona Showed Who's Dominant

Barcelona FC played excellently in the game and dominated the French early on. They took possession of the ball and the match stayed mostly on the Paris Saint-Germain side of the field. The French appeared frazzled and did not try to stop the comeback until the fourth and fifth goal was made by Bacelona. The Barcelona team recovered the ball almost immediately every time they lost possession.

The French also did not come in with the mindset of taking the game decisively from Barcelona FC probably with the thought that the impossible will not happen. The lone bright spot for the Paris side was Edinson Cavani who put up a semblance of a fight when he chipped in a goal for his side in the 62nd minute to keep them in striking distance at 3-1 (via ESPN).

The proverbial nail in the coffin for Paris in the match came in the form of the Sergi Roberto spectacular goal that came in the the dying minutes of the match. The next assignment for Barcelona FC will be determined in a quarterfinals match-up draw on Mar. 17 with whoever gets picked first also plays on home turf first.
