'Beauty and the Beast' 'Gay Moment': Anti-LGBTQ Boycott May Devastate Emma Watson Flick's Prospects
"Beauty and the Beast" is the first Disney movie ever to showcase a gay moment. Unfortunately, this triggered off an anti-LGBTQ boycott movement.
Even before its release, the Emma Watson flick is already being banned for a very small reason. Will this affect the box-office collection of the film?
According to Daily News, the "Beauty and the Beast" live-action reboot of the earlier animated classic from Disney introduces a gay character LeFou (Josh Gad) for the first time. And this particular decision of the creative team has brought wrath from none other than the American Family Association. Thus, the movie is attracting hatred even before its release.
'Beauty and the Beast' Boycott By Anti-LGBTQ Group
The Southern Poverty Law Center has termed this particular association as a hate group. The association is an anti-LGBTQ group that believes in propagating biblical truths, as they serve best for the well being of the nation and families. This particular group has decided to boycott the remake of "Beauty and the Beast."
The statement from the group said that parents should be warned, since Disney has supported a strong LGBTQ agenda in the film. The group is against the movie because its target audience is essentially, children from five to 11-years-old. The American Family Association has advised parents to take a strong stand against "Beauty and the Beast," as Disney may continue coming out with movies having homosexual agenda.
Bill Condon Triggered Off Controversy?
According to AL.com, an online survey conducted on 6,700 people who are faith-driven has revealed that most of the religious believers will stay away from "Beauty and the Beast." The movie has allegedly received criticism because director, Bill Condon talked about gay moments in it during an interview.
The moment Condon came out with his "exclusively gay moment" version, Alabama's Henagar Drive-In Theater declared that it will not show the film - sadly, more such announcements may follow. And if it happens, "Beauty and the Beast" releasing on Mar. 17 may affect its box-office performance.
