There's still a couple of months to go before "Alien: Covenant" hits the big screen, but director Ridley Scott is already thinking long-term. In fact, he has revealed the title of the film's sequel, sharing that it will be called "Alien: Awakening." He also teased Noomi Rapace's return, saying that she was integral to the story's plot, despite not having a screen-heavy role.

What's Next For The Franchise?

Director Ridley Scott spoke with Fandango to share his thoughts on "Alien: Covenant" and what's next for the franchise. He said that there will be a film arriving after this year's effort and it will be called "Alien: Awakening," which will take place after the events of 2012's "Prometheus."

In addition, he also confirmed that if these efforts are successful, there will be a slew of movies in the same franchise as well. In fact, he said that he's ready to go shoot the next film as early as next year.

No Goodbyes Yet

As per Gamespot, "Alien: Covenant" director Ridley Scott admitted that he's "not going to close it down again," citing that he won't go as long as two years to create another film in the franchise. Meanwhile, Screenrant reported that the director also hinted at Noomi Rapace's return to the film.

While she wasn't heavily featured in the marketing materials for the upcoming film, the director admitted that she still has an integral part in the film. Noomi Rapace's Shaw was influential in Michael Fassbender's David's actions in the upcoming "Alien: Covenant."

While director Ridley Scott's comments about Noomi Rapace's return seem vague, it might be that the film will feature her in flashbacks or memories that David may have. Fans will have to wait and see just how much or how little Shaw will be featured in the upcoming "Alien: Covenant," which arrives on the big screen this May 19.
