'Westworld' Season 2 Premiere Could Be Delayed Further; May Reportedly Be Due To Writers' Strike

It now appears that the wait for the return of "Westworld" could be a longer one for its fans. A concern is reportedly being faced by "Westworld" Season 2 that may have an impact on its production.

"Westworld" Season 2: Delay May Occur Due To Looming Writers' Strike

Creator Jonathan Nolan came clean by accepting that "Westworld" Season 2 may face a delay in production, in case a writers' strike materializes. In the recently held PaleyFest, Nolan shared that their team of writers are on the verge of working on episode 3 for the new season. But if the strike does take place, the hit series may see its premiere date getting postponed further than the originally scheduled 2018 return.

Nolan also reasoned out on the cause for which the show's writers could go on strike. It seems that shows like"Westworld," with only 10 episodes in a season does not quite work well with the crew.

Vanity Fair wrote that whenever the producers hire their writers, they are made to sign exclusivity deals. This means that the writers cannot work elsewhere until the time a show concludes. So, when a series has just 10 episodes instead of 22, their earnings get reduced by less than 50 percent.

Nolan said, "We're still paid per episode, and now it's 10 episodes with exclusivity. If the show only takes a few months [to do], you're still held to the show. That's a 60 percent reduction in income."

"Westworld" Creator Wants A Speedy Solution

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nolan is not in favor of a strike. He also indicated he will vote in favor of the strike authorization ballots when the Writers Guild of America sends it out next month. The creator added, "It's important all parties come to the table and find a solution that works for everyone."

Viewers will recollect that HBO had declared in Nov. last year that the premiere of "Westworld" Season 2 is expected in 2018. This is over a year later than the final episode of its season 1.
