The Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson split took place almost five years ago. And it was mostly because the actress cheated on her "Twilight" co-star and had an affair with director, Rupert Sanders, with whom she was working at that time.

Now years later, Sanders said that it was a momentary lapse on his part that led to the fling. Does this mean that one momentary lapse caused the split of Stewart and Pattinson?

More than five years ago, pictures emerged in the media showing that the "Twilight" actress was having an affair with the married director of "Snow White And The Huntsman." Incidentally, Kristen Stewart was playing the lead role in the movie. The whole thing caused such uproar among Stewart and Pattinson fans, that even now, they hope that the ex-couple will reunite some day.

Surprisingly, the news also caught the attention of none other than the current president of the US, Donald Trump, reports News.com.au. The billionaire even sent a flurry of tweets to Pattinson, calling Stewart a scarlet woman. However, for Sanders, his fling with Kristen Stewart was just an exciting mistake.

Recently, while talking about the affair during the promo of his latest flick, "Ghost In The Shell," the director said that mistakes make life exciting and you just have to brush them off and move ahead. The news even hit the marriage of Sanders in a big way and he issued a public apology to his wife. Incidentally, Sanders' wife also appeared in the movie along with Kristen Stewart, but did not even think once that such a thing was going on between her husband and the lead star.

After her affair with Sanders became public, Kristen Stewart also issued an apology to Robert Pattinson, reports E! Online. Prior to that, she and Pattinson dated each other for three years.

The actress did say that she loved and respected Rob the most and the couple did come together to give their relationship a second chance. But, it did not work out and Kristen Stewart lost the love of her life -  because of a momentary lapse.
