According to biographer, Sally Beddell-Smith, who wrote the book "Prince Charles: The passions and paradoxes of an improbable life," the relationships of Prince William and brother Prince Harry will be "inconceivable" if not for the past of their father.

She noted that the heir to the throne, Prince Charles' difficulties in his marriage, especially that with Princess Diana Spencer, paved the way for the brother's modern relationship set-up, Hello Magazine said in a report. Prince William wedded commoner, Kate Middleton, while Prince Harry is dating "Suits" actress, Meghan Markle.

Beddell-Smith noted Prince Charles was forced to marry someone who is "without a history." "With the perspective of now 20 years time since her tragic death, I think people realize now that it was such a mismatch and was hasty," she said.

She added that Prince Charles and Princess Diana only met 12 times before the former proposed to her. "They have the incredible legacy of two fantastic sons but it was difficult from the get go really and I don't blame him and I don't blame her."

With this, Prince William and Prince Harry are able to enjoy their relationships, without too many restrictions. For the biographer, this is a sign of the modern monarchy, which Queen Elizabeth somehow adapted.

She said the royal family wanted to "avoid the tragedy" that Prince Charles has faced before. The author also tackled Prince Charles' marriage to the Duchess of Cornwall Camilla.
