The nut milk health benefits make some people switch from dairy milk. Because nut milk has many types, it is worth knowing which is best for weight loss while considering a nut's content of anti-inflammatories, vitamins, and fatty acids.

Many health food advocates switch to nut milk for weight loss because it is considered pure and natural. Some, meanwhile, opt for the nut milk alternative because they are lactose intolerant or following a vegan lifestyle.

Nut milk is actually a liquid formed from crushed nuts that have a milky appearance despite the absence of dairy milk. However, it can be used to replace milk as additives to some meals and drinks like coffee or tea.

But, nut milk should not be used as a substitute for breast milk and dairy milk for babies. Despite the quite similar appearance, they contain different nutrients from each other.

Meanwhile, nut milk is usually used by athletes to replenish muscle mass after working out since most nuts are known to be high in good fats. But that does not mean nut milk is low in fats or calories, though, as each nut differs on their nutritious contents according to the celebrity trainer and health author Thomas DeLauer of BeFit.

Types of Nut Milk Health Benefits

One of the most common and well-known nut milk is the almond milk. It is low in calorie and high in vitamin E and fiber with a good ratio of omega 3 to omega 6 fatty acids.

But since almond is a tree nut, people with allergies will not be able to consume this type of nut milk. Aside from having low protein, most almond milk contains carrageenan, a thickening agent extracted from seaweed, which can be highly inflammatory.

As for cashew milk, it has the lowest calorie count out of the many kinds of nut milk and a high amount of vitamin K which helps in directing where calcium must go in the body. This type of nut milk is also the easiest to make at home by simply soaking the cashews.

However, since cashews are sweeter, it contains more sugar and carbohydrates compared to almonds. There is also the presence of carrageenan on some cashew milk in the market.

Coconut milk, meanwhile, is considered neutral. It contains high fats but because they are omega 3, it is beneficial to the body because the lauric acid converted into monoglyceride monolaurin bolsters a healthy immune response to foreign microbes.

What will make people pause for a little is the high-calorie content of coconut milk. Additionally, there is little to no protein in coconut milk, but some people do not mind it as there are other sources of protein in one's daily diet.

Last but not the least is the not very familiar flax milk. Even though it is not as popular as the rest of the nut milk family, flax contains very nutritious benefits like the ALA fats that convert into omega 3 and healthy fats.

The flax milk is also the most similar to the real milk in terms of taste and consistency. Additionally, it contains high minerals too. Aside from the lack of protein and some people's sensitivity to nuts, DeLauer says there are not many downsides to the flax milk.

In conclusion, for those who are looking for weight loss in the nut milk health benefits, the best option to go for is cashew milk mostly because it has very low calorie. The least effective in fat loss, meanwhile, is almond milk.
