United Airlines' Passenger Dao Suffers Concussion, Broken Nose And Lost Front Teeth

The United Airline passenger who had been forcibly removed from a flight on Sunday night suffered a concussion, a broken nose and two front teeth lost after the incident with Chicago Department of Aviation security officers.

CEO Oscar Munoz has apologized for how the situation with the United Airlines passenger David Dao was handled but the latter's lawyer, Thomas Demetrio said that they might bring the matter to the court. They had sought to have the evidence preserved for now.

Demetrio explained that airlines have to stop the practice of overbooking, describing the bigger picture of airlines' treatment of their passengers as bullying. Legally though, they are acting within the bounds of the law when they sell more tickets than seats-- as what happened in flight 3411 at Chicago O'Hare International Airport, the NPR reported.

The altercation which caused Dao's concussion started when the passengers were asked to voluntarily give up their seat and were offered up to $1,000 in remuneration due to overbooking. There were 4 crew members who needed to be on the flight bound for Louisville, Kentucky to work on another flight. The airline chose which passenger should leave when nobody offered to go on their own. Dao was asked to disembark after the flight crew looked at the passengers' connecting flight and ticket price. He refused, saying that he had patients to see the next day.

They could not convince him to do so and it prompted them to call the aviation security officers. However, one of the officers forcefully removed him and with other law enforcers, dragged him down the aisle. He returned to the plane later with a bloody face.

The incident was recorded on video by the other passengers in the flight, with some of them expressing disapproval of what was happening, according to CNN.

United Airlines promised to refund the tickets of all the passengers on the said flight.
