A Whole New 'Aladdin' Live-Action Remake: Will Smith Tipped To Play Iconic Genie Role

The movie world is abuzz with reports about casting calls that have confirmed that an "Aladdin" live-action movie is in the works. Its is reportedly set to go into production later this year.

Early Production Reports

The "Aladdin" live-action movie will be directed by Guy Ritchie, who was at the helm of "Sherlock Holmes" and "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." The script will be handled by "Big Fish" writer, John August. The movie production is keen to cast actors of Middle Eastern descent for the lead characters Aladdin and Jasmine who can sing because, yes, it will be a musical.

Producer Dan Lin scheduled rehearsals for May this year. Filming is planned to commence in the summer in the United Kingdom, Fox 2 reported.

The production of the "Aladdin" live-action movie is also reported to be in talks with Will Smith to play the role of the Genie. The role was voiced by the late Robin Williams in the animated version.

There were unconfirmed reports that the role was supposedly offered to Kevin Hart before negotiations started with Will Smith's camp. Will Smith was reported to be taking part in "Dumbo," before talks of scheduling conflicts pushed him out of the production, Radio Times reported.

Disney's Choice Of Live-Action Remakes

Critics believe that Disney has been very clever in choosing the movies they want to bring back to the big screen because they are the ones that people have a connection with. The original "Aladdin" was a box office hit that grossed $217 million in the United States. The "Aladdin" live-action movie is set to become a hit like other remakes because Disney has hired very good filmmakers.

Disney believes that remakes like the "Aladdin" live-action movie will give children of this generation the feeling that their parents experienced when they watched the original versions. The huge production also caters to the taste of the modern audience. The studio can also open the rich collection of Disney classics, so fans of these movies can experience them once again.
