Codeine and Tramadol are just two of the most common medicines that are prescribed for pain management worldwide. Just recently, the FDA stated that these two drugs are not safe to be prescribed for kids.

These Drugs Are Not Safe For Children

Web MD reported that parents should not give their kids medicines that contain Codeine and Tramadol, as these pain relievers can trigger breathing difficulties on children, per on a statement by the FDA. According to the FDA, these drugs have harmful contents that can affect the breathing process of children.

Not Recomended For Breastfeeding Moms

The publication also added that breastfeeding moms should not take these prescriptions as well. Because they might transfer harmful opioids to their babies, while breastfeeding and taking these types of drugs with Codeine and Tramadol.

Why Are Drugs Codeine And Tramadol Not Safe?

Some kids and grown-ups are genetically predisposed to concoct opioid drugs instantly, as stated by the FDA. That can generate the level of narcotics in the bloodstream rapidly and this can trigger drug overdose.

The FDA is requiring these reforms because they are aware that some babies who took Codeine or Tramadol have encountered respiratory distress - even death because they absorb the medicines rapidly, as reported by AAP.

Since 1969, codeine has been associated with 64 incidents of severe breathing difficulties, incorporating 24 cases of mortality in infants and teenagers. Tramadol is not recommended for pediatric treatment but has been involved in a number of severe breathing predicaments, including three casualties in children and teenagers.

The FDA suggested that doctors must use other prescriptions for managing cough and pain. Officials also urged parents to give close attention to the components of medicine they dispense to their kids and seek urgent medical attention if kids taking the restricted medicines endure difficulty in breathing.
