While some people discover what they want to do in life at an early age, others struggle to do so. Fortunately, some exercises can guide people toward their true calling.

Purpose exercises are activities designed to help people identify their passions, strengths and goals. These exercises prompt introspection and reflection, guiding people toward a deeper understanding of themselves and their purpose in life. Finding the intersection of all the activities of interest based on the criteria below can help a person find their purpose.

List the activities you like to do

To find one's purpose, it helps to make a list of activities, hobbies, and experiences that bring joy and fulfillment. These can be anything, big or small, that ignites a sense of passion within oneself. Whether it means painting, hiking, or volunteering, identifying what brings genuine happiness is an essential part of uncovering one's purpose.

List the activities you are skilled at

To find purpose in life, one must consider tasks that come naturally. These could be skills or talents that you effortlessly excel at without much effort. This can be problem-solving, listening, organizing, or any other innate skill.

Look back at your experiences

Identifying patterns or recurring themes can offer clues about one's passions and values. It is helpful to reflect on significant moments, achievements, and challenges. These can offer insights into one's values, desires, and aspirations.

Ask others for their opinion

Seeking input from others can provide valuable insight. Loved ones and mentors may offer observations or feedback that people might overlook themselves. Trusted people can provide insight into one's strengths, passions and potential paths forward.

Ask thought-provoking and self-discovery questions

It is also helpful to engage in introspective questioning to get deeper into personal desires and motivations. Questions such as, "What activities set your soul on fire?" or "What would your perfect day look like?" can prompt meaningful reflection.
