A shocking incident unfolded in Wasco, California, after witnesses reported seeing a man walking through town allegedly munching on a severed human leg.

The man in question, identified as 27-year-old Rosendo Tellez, was apprehended by authorities last Friday following the disturbing scene, FOX26NEWS reported.

Eyewitnesses claimed that Tellez was spotted strolling around town with the grisly remains, which were purportedly taken from a train accident earlier that morning at a nearby Amtrak station.

According to local reports, a pedestrian was struck by a train, resulting in immediate fatality and the detachment of a limb.

Video footage captured by onlookers, albeit censored, depicted Tellez nonchalantly holding and sniffing the chopped-off leg while walking along the sidewalk.

Some sources even alleged that Tellez was observed taking bites from the severed limb, although these claims have not been confirmed.

According to TMZ, law enforcement officials from the Kern County Sheriff's Office swiftly intervened and arrested Tellez on multiple charges, including possession of drug paraphernalia, outstanding warrants and the unlawful removal of human remains from a location not designated as a cemetery.

Tellez was kept in custody before he was scheduled to appear in court in Shafter on Tuesday morning to address the charges brought against him.

The incident has sparked widespread concern and discussions about mental health, particularly among the homeless population in Kern County.

Carlos Baldovinos, Executive Director of Mission at Kern, explained via Bakersfield Now the potential mental health issues faced by people like Tellez. He also stressed the need for support and intervention programs.

Baldovinos expressed hope that initiatives like Prop 1, aimed at addressing homelessness, could provide assistance to those in need.
