What's Gwyneth Paltrow's 'Eyes Open' Meditation Routine?
Renowned actress and wellness advocate Gwyneth Paltrow has unveiled insights into her distinctive eyes-open meditation routine, noting its role in connecting to her "highest self" and fostering overall well-being.
Eyes-open meditation, as explained by Paltrow, involves maintaining a gentle gaze while meditating, challenging traditional notions of silent meditation by encouraging users to engage with their surroundings.
Paltrow said it is used to maintain one's presence during challenging situations and foster a deeper connection with oneself.
"I relied on my eyes open meditation to connect to my highest self, to not lapse into reactivity, to try and keep my ego out of it," the Oscar-winning actress said, according to the Independent.
"Especially when we feel something is not fair, or unjust, someone's not living up to their end of the bargain, or something."
Incorporating meditation into her daily routine, Paltrow disclosed that her exploration into wellness began during her father's battle with oral cancer in the late 1990s.
She views meditation and mindfulness practices as essential components of her longevity plan, alongside other factors such as sleep, stress management and diet.
While acknowledging the documented benefits of meditation, Paltrow encourages everyone to start with short sessions and gradually incorporate them into their lives.
She said that embracing mindfulness has the potential to positively impact people and promote empathy, particularly in a time marked by division and discord.
By fostering a sense of interconnectedness and empathy, Paltrow believes eyes-open meditation can contribute to healing divisions and promoting understanding.
"Once you learn how to do eyes-open meditation -- something you can literally incorporate at any time -- you can be engaged with the world but still very connected to yourself," the Goop founder told Business Insider.
"I rely on it to feel more whole."
Despite her commitment to wellness, Paltrow clarified that her aim was not immortality but a long and healthy life rather than pursuing extreme longevity.
