What to Do Before Sensory Deprivation Tank Sessions

Preparing for a sensory deprivation tank session is crucial for maximizing its benefits. However, like other therapy sessions, there are preparations and certain things that clients, or the people who are going to the session, should remember.

What to Do Before Your Sensory Deprivation Tank Session

Before their sensory deprivation tank session, the therapy client should opt for a light meal to prevent discomfort while floating. The choice between wearing a bathing suit or floating nude ensures a distraction-free experience. Utilizing provided amenities like earplugs and face wipes can enhance comfort during the session.

Showering with only shampoo and shower gel before entering the tank helps maintain cleanliness while taking a shower at a neutral temperature avoids affecting body temperature before the float. Ensuring the face and hairline are dry minimizes distractions during the float. The decision to keep the tank door open or closed is based on the client's personal comfort level.

What to Avoid

To ensure a smooth sensory deprivation tank experience, therapy clients should refrain from shaving on the day of their session to prevent irritation from the salt water. It is recommended to limit caffeine intake before the session, as it can interfere with relaxation. Avoiding smoking beforehand is advisable to maintain respiratory health and prevent unwanted odors.

Clients should also avoid floating if they have recently colored their hair to prevent color transfer to the tank. Staying away from excessive fluids and stimulants like alcohol can prevent distractions during the session. It is advised to refrain from taking calls during the session to maintain uninterrupted relaxation.

Following these guidelines can help people prepare effectively for their sensory deprivation tank session.
