An 18-year-old college freshman died Sunday in a bizarre accident while attempting a back flip.

Baylor University student Kevin Signo from Frisco, Texas, broke his neck during a Filipino Students Association dance rehearsal when he practiced a back flip and landed on his head, according to NBC affiliate KCEN TV in Waco.

According to the Waco Tribune-Herald, Signo hit his forehead and sustained the fatal spinal injury during a pause between practicing dance routines.

Many Baylor University students are expected to attend Signo's funeral on Saturday in Allen, Texas, according to the Huffington Post.

The Waco Tribune-Herald reported that the accident happened in a Baylor University gymnasium about 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Signo was declared dead 4 a.m. Sunday at a nearby hospital.

Signo had been majoring in pre-biology and participated in several university groups including Asians For Christ. Signo wanted to be a doctor and that he loved to play soccer, according to the Baylor Lariat school newspaper.

The 18-year-old's parents, Henry and Jackie Signo said their son was an introvert in high school but thrived in college.

"Kevin was a very bright, well-liked and involved student on our campus," the university spokeswoman Lori Fogleman told Tribune-Herald. "He had so many friends here who will miss him terribly."
