Christina Applegate, known for her roles in "Dead to Me" and "Married... With Children," recently shared candidly about her ongoing battle with depression, which resurfaced after more than two decades, alongside her fight against multiple sclerosis (MS).

In a heartfelt conversation on her "MeSsy" podcast with co-host Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Applegate revealed her inner turmoil, stating, "I don't enjoy living. I don't enjoy it. I don't enjoy things anymore."

Applegate disclosed her MS diagnosis in 2021, shedding light on her journey with the autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system, leading to progressive physical and cognitive decline.

Despite her Emmy-winning status, she has been transparent about her condition, detailing challenges such as the presence of 30 brain lesions and the struggles of attending lengthy Hollywood events, including the 2023 Emmy Awards.

The actress' recent depressive episode, she confessed, has been particularly distressing, marking a return after decades of relative stability. Expressing her feelings of hopelessness and discouragement, Applegate highlighted the difficulty of navigating her illness, finding solace in the responsibility of caring for her teenage daughter amid the turmoil.

"I'm in a depression right now which I don't think I've felt that for years, like a real, f--it-all depression," Applegate shared, according to the Los Angeles Times. "Like real depression, where it's kind of scaring me too a little bit because it feels really fatalistic, it feels really 'end of.'"

"I'm trapped in this darkness right now that I haven't felt in ... probably 20-something years," she added.

Taking a proactive step, Applegate shared that she sought help from a therapist, acknowledging her initial hesitance due to fear of confronting her emotions. In a reflective tweet, she emphasized the power of vulnerability, underscoring the importance of sharing struggles to alleviate their weight.

"When we hold in feelings of despair we give those feelings incredible power," she stated. "By just sharing we free ourselves. Never feel alone. There is always an ear somewhere. Love you."

Despite her resilience, Applegate admitted the ongoing challenges of living with MS, revealing potential symptoms that may have gone unnoticed for years before her formal diagnosis.

She remains hopeful for brighter days ahead, aiming to navigate her journey with courage and honesty, even amidst isolation and hardship.

"I wake up and I'm reminded of it every day. ... But I might get to a place where I function a little bit better," she said in a March interview.
