E. Coli Threat in More Farm Rich Products
The threat of bacterial contamination, known as Escherichia coli (E. coli) has prompted an expanded recall of Farm Rich snacks. Farm Rich is sold in the Grocery chain, Giant Food and is manufactured by Rich Products Corporation. This recall adds on to the numerous amounts of produces that were already recalled back in March. The products that were marked with possible contamination were from the frozen foods line. The latest products to be recalled are the mini quesadillas appetizers, the mini pizza slices, and the mozzarella bites.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that seven people had to be hospitalized after falling ill from consuming these products. The CDC stated that it found the presence of E. coli in one of the victim's Farm Rich frozen chicken quesadillas package. Fortunately, none of the people died. The agency and the company have stressed that consumers look at the product labels and immediately return them for compensation at a Giant Food store if they are a part of the recalled list. No one should eat any of the recalled products.
Consuming E. coli can lead to deadly consequences. Although the infection can clear on its own, people, especially young children and the elderly have a higher chance of developing kidney failure. The bacterial infection often causes stomach cramps and diarrhea for a few days to a week.
According to the company, Farm Rich products were being sold nationwide at the time of the recall. Giant Foods, which is based in Landover, Md., did not give the specifics as to how many products were distributed and how many needed to be return. The grocery chain currently has 171 stores on the East coast.
