Are you a UFO believer or skeptic? Perhaps the release of secret papers by the British government of UFO sightings and photos on Friday may sway your one way or the others.

Britain's National Archives released a 4,300-page report  that shows fascinating sighting remains at the Rendlesham Forest incident in 1980, when US servicemen reported encounters with aliens in Suffolk woodland.

A UFO historian, David Clarke, who analyzed the files said "many of the mobile-phone snapshots sent in between late 2007 and late 2009 were of such poor quality that it was hard to tell what was going on".

Clarke tells The Telegraph that roughly two thirds of 2009's reports could be explained by people seeing Chinese lanterns floating in the sky. In one recorded 2008 instance, a police helicopter crew in Wales reported seeing small lights in the sky that were later confirmed to be Chinese lanterns set loose by a nearby wedding.

He said that "almost half" of all UFO correspondence directed at defense officials, relates to request for information, or "tip-offs" about the 33-year-old incident.

"It is the one case that is outstanding, from all the sightings going back 40 or 50 years," he added.

"There is no way you will be able to get to the truth of what happened because like a snowball rolling down the hill, the stories have been more and more embellished."
