For 15 days, rainwater and raw corn were the only sources of nutrition for a Chinese woman who fell in a well. According to the Xinhua news agency, 38-year-old Su Qixiu had fallen into a 12-feet deep well located in Zhongfeng Village in the province of Henan. Since the well was abandoned, the woman stayed there for over two weeks hoping that someone would find her.

"There was nothing [in the well], [so I] ate a bit of raw corn and called for help every day," Su said according to BBC News. "I spent every day hoping that someone would walk by and rescue me. I called out every day, and although there was no response, I did not give up."

Finally, on Monday afternoon, a villager who was harvesting corn in the area heard Su's cries for help. Soon enough firefighters came to Su's rescue.  They brought her up from the well and took her to get medical care. Su's husband, Li Qunming had told local reporters that his wife had lost a lot of weight during the two weeks. Based on his calculations, she fell from 115 pounds to possibly around 80 pounds.

"Although Su did not have any obvious injuries, she still could not speak or eat. Function of her internal organs has not recovered, but she is in stable condition and receiving fluids," the Xinhua newspaper reported.

Based on local reports, Su was looking for some medicinal herbs in the cornfield back on September 1. The well was covered up by many tall stalks of corn, making it difficult for anyone to see it. Before Su knew it, she had taken a step too far and fallen into the well. The insides of the well were too smooth for her to climb out, forcing her to live down there until people started searching.

Based on statistics, falling into wells in China is not rare. The state media reported that in July, five people had fallen into wells and to their deaths in southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
