Nut Eaters Have Lower Cancer and Heart Disease Risk
Seems like the nuts will be sold out very soon. People who eat nuts on a regular basis, are less likely to die of heart disease or cancer, a study at Harvard proved.
Earlier the nuts are considered as an important ingredients that keep your heart healthy. The study which started 30 years back has further proved.
During these 30 years researchers tracked around 119,000 men and women. They found that those who had nuts every day were 20 per cent less likely to die than those who never had it.
The risk of dying of heart disease dropped 29 percent and the risk of dying of cancer fell 11 percent among those who had nuts seven or more times a week compared with people who never ate them, reported Fox News.
“There’s a general perception that if you eat more nuts you’re going to get fat. Our results show the opposite,” said Dr. Ying Bao of Harvard-affiliated Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston according to Fox News.
Researchers are not sure as why it has such a positive effect on the human body. They believe that it could be their unsaturated fatty acids, minerals and other nutrients.
“Sometimes when you eat nuts you eat less of something else like potato chips, so the benefit may come from avoiding an unhealthy food,” Sacco added, according to Fox News.
10 years back the Food and Drug Administration also said that a fistful of nuts everyday is helpful in reducing the risk of heart diseases. The heart association also recommends four servings of unsalted and unoiled nuts every week.
The study is published in Thursday’s New England Journal of Medicine. The study was sponsored by The National Institutes of Health and the International Tree Nut Council Nutrition Research & Education Foundation.
