Astronauts Enjoy Thanksgiving Feast In International Space Station [Video]
This Thanksgiving is not just for earth residents. American astronauts Mike Hopkins and Rick Mastracchio will be celebrating it with other crew members on board at the International Space Station.
The feast will include traditional food items like turkey dishes, gravy to cornbread dressing and blueberry cobbler.
In an interview, Dr. Vickie Kloeris, head of the space station food station explained that the food preparations for thanksgiving was not a day or two affair. It involved a year round process that involved freeze-drying, canning, and thermostabilization to keep the food edible despite months without refrigeration.
“We are happy to be up here orbiting above the Earth. If we can’t be at home with our families during the holidays, then this is the next-best place that any of us would like to be,” said astronauts according to THV 11.
"It’s all very tasty,” Marshburn told CBSNews.com. “We’d open it up, dig your spoon it, and it just, you can do it upside down, sideways, anyway you want.”
