Lesbian Couple Sue Sperm Bank for Goof Up

A same-sex couple in Ohio is suing a sperm bank for sending them sperm of a black donor in 2012. The couple had sought a white donor's sperm but were blessed with a mixed race baby.

Jennifer Cramblett, 36, and her partner Amanda Zinkon 29 hail from an all-white neighborhood in Ohio. The couple got married in 2012 and five months later, Cramblett became pregnant with sperm from Midwest Sperm Bank in Chicago. The couple had their first child Payton who turned two this year. Wanting to have more children, they called the sperm bank to reserve sperm from the same donor.

To their shock, the sperm bank informed that they were given an African-American man's sperm, the Mirror reported. The bank informed them that the mix-up was due to written log-keeping. Confusion between batch numbers resulted in the bank sending Cramblett incorrect sperm.

"How could they make a mistake that was so personal? They took a personal choice, a personal decision and took it on themselves to make that choice for us out of pure negligence," Cramblett told ABC News.

Cramblett and her partner reportedly spent a year deciding on their choice of donor.

The Independent reported that the couple live in Uniontown of Ohio, a conservative all-white locality. Cramblett parents are also not comfortable with their daughter's homosexuality.

In her law suit, Cramblett said she was worried about cultivating her daughter Payton in Uniontown and how her daughter would grow up with her "overtly insensitive" family.

"Initially when we found out I was mad at the sperm bank. For not caring about my feelings and emotions and just pushing me away. There was no sorry, no accountability. I wanted them to stand up and say 'this is what we did'. If they had some compassion and just said sorry. But they didn't care," Cramblett said according to Mirror.
