A 22-year-old Colombia woman who went to the hospital complaining of stomach pains was informed that a potato was growing inside her reproductive organs.

The woman told doctors she had inserted the potato inside her vagina as a form of contraceptive, according to the Daily Mail. She said her mother had told her that potatoes could prevent pregnancies.

Doctors discovered that the contraceptive potato had apparently germinated and sprouted roots inside of the woman's reproductive organs, according to Colombia Reports.

"My mom told me that if I didn't want to get pregnant, I should put a potato up there, and I believed her," the unidentified woman said, according to the large Colombia news website.

Doctors promptly removed the sprouting vegetable, which was responsible for her abdominal pains, from her body. Hospital staff told reporters that the growing potato caused no permanent damage to the woman's health, according to the Daily Mail.
