Five Reasons Why a Good Night's Rest Is Important
The feeling that you get once you are well-rested, especially after a good night's sleep, barely matches with any other feeling.
Here are five other health benefits of sleeping well:
Long life
According to various studies, people who sleep less than six hours at night, can risk a shorter life span, compared to people who get more than six hours of sleep daily. Ideally, experts suggest sleeping for about eight hours a day.
Pain management
People suffering from chronic pains can benefit from sleep.
Radiant skin
Surprisingly, sleep also ensures radiant skin. While we sleep, our body produces a growth hormone, which is crucial in the production of collagen - an essential for glowing complexion.
Stronger immune system
Lack of sleep can suppress your immune system, making you vulnerable to infections. A study in 2009 found that sleeping for fewer than seven hours a night increased the risk of catching a cold. Another team of researchers found that the risk of trebled compared with those who slept for eight hours or more a night.
Better sex
According to researchers, the better rested you are, the better sex you'll have. The 2010 Sleep in America poll found about 20-30 per cent of men and women felt their family life and sexual relationships had been affected by their sleepiness.
