Change in weather may increase the risk of catching cold and flu. According to experts, a diet rich in variety of produce like lean proteins, whole grains and low-fat dairy products along with adequate sleep ensures well-functioning immune system, promoting faster recovery.  

Here are some super-foods that will protect you from cold and flu this winter: 

Carrots

Carrots are rich in beta-carotene which make an excellent base for soups, stews and risotto. Vitamin A is also present in the carrot that helps fight cold and flu. It can also protect you from infections that are common in colder months. 

Green tea and chamomile tea

Green tea is a powerful antioxidant that has strong antiviral and antibacterial property. Experts recommend drinking approximately three to five cups of tea a day to keep immune system in check. 

Chamomile tea is also thought to possess antioxidants that help fight against cold and flu during winters. 

Mushrooms

Mushrooms are immunity boosters. These protect system against cold and virus during winter. White mushrooms are rich in natural killer cells - a vital component of the immune system. 

Garlic

Garlic is the most common home remedy to cure fever and cold. According to various studies, garlic has the ability to increase levels of enzymes that help the liver detoxify the blood, giving it special immune powers.
