So if you are magnetized and pretty much attracted to smoking a puff right after you stroll out from the pub, then there is a rather fascinating explanation for the obvious association.

Many pub-dwellers, after spending ample time drinking and relishing their time in a bar are often compelled by a crafty cigarette. The reason behind this has an interesting justification as recently, scientists have shed light on the ever-emerging fact as to why some people are obliged to take smoke right after they finish drinking.

According to the researchers, smoking can actually unwrap the effect of drowsiness or even sleep, in some cases. The link of booze and falling asleep is pretty much known to everyone, but smoking lets you feel more active and vigilant, rather than allowing you to sleep.

The research was initiated by the University of Missouri when the proper usage of nicotine was discovered. It was, thus, made known that nicotine cancels out the sleep effect, after alcohol.

So if you are a heavy drinker as well as a regular smoker, this pretty much sums up your situation.

One of the adverse effects of drinking alcohol is sleepiness,' said Dr Mahesh Thakkar, lead author of the study.

'However, when used in conjunction with alcohol, nicotine acts as a stimulant to ward off sleep.

'If an individual smokes, then he or she is much more likely to consume more alcohol, and vice-versa. They feed off one another.'

In a nutshell, individuals who are alcohol dependent are theoretically nicotine reliant as well. Their usage goes side by side as it also tends to enrich the level of pleasure and peace within a human mind.

The men behind the study also found out that nicotine initiates a response in the brain that actually weakens down the elements of tiredness and lethargy in the brain, enabling a person to be totally active and energetic.

The research conducted by the scientists had a dual purpose; it is anticipated that the results will not only assist regular drinkers, but also aid individuals who are often tangled with mental health conditions such as schizophrenia, which is in most cases associated with smoking.
