Snapchat Addressed Rumors About Policy Change
Snapchat has been under a lot of row on social media channels following a rumor about the company's privacy policies which gives Snapchat control over user's videos, photos and other shared content via the app. However, the company addressed the rumors in very simple and plain language assuring the users that they will retain the control of their private content. In a statement that was released following the rumors, Snapchat assured that the company will not retain their information or content indeterminately. The statement read, "The Snaps and Chats you send your friends remain as private today as they were before the update". In fact, the company further added that the messages are deleted from the server as soon as they are viewed. The company has never exercised any control over the pictures taken by the users, reports Tech Crunch.
This is not the first time that people have raised their voice against a company's terms of service. It happened in 2012 for Instagram that forced the company to roll back their terms. The similar discontentment was shown by the users regarding the company's rights over the content that is shared via the app. The company offered in the statement, "We need that license when it comes to, for example, Snaps submitted to Live Stories, where we have to be able to show those Stories around the world-and even replay them or syndicate them". The right to use content in the said manner has always been part of the company's terms of service from the very start, said Tech Crunch.
The company also clarified that the terms of service have been updated to help Snapchat promote message replays. Through the in-app purchases, the company is opening itself for promoted content to drive the company's profitability through paid advertising, reports Tech Crunch.
