Expect an added security layer soon on your Gmail account. The online security team of Google has announced that an update will be available soon and its main objective will be safeguard the information of Gmail users from security challenges online. Gmail's security engineering lead Elie Bursztein and Licolas Lidzborski from the Anti Fraud and Abuse research mentioned in their official blog post about the findings in a report that was commissioned by Google in collaboration with Universities of Michigan and Illinois. In that report, researchers revealed that today, the email is more secure than it used to be two years ago. They also said that the connections formed between Gmail accounts are encrypted. However, the company said in a press release, "To notify our users of potential dangers, we are developing in-product warnings for Gmail users that will display when they receive a message through a non-encrypted connection. These warnings will begin to roll-out in the coming months", reports STGIST.

Google has spent considerable time in understanding the way email security works and how it has evolved in the last two years. Researchers at the internet company say that while the privacy has definitely improved over the years, the new challenges have also come up and one of which is the unencrypted connection. According to Ubergizmo, an unencrypted does not always mean malicious content in file. However, it is readable by another user who can intercept the email and add a virus as an attachment or read the contents of the email. As a result, the recipient may install the malicious contents of the email thinking that it came from a trusted source.

Even in the face of looming threats, there are still many email providers who do not encrypt emails by default and most users will be able to see the warning messages starting next month, says Tech Times.
