Deciding Against Recall, Samsung Sticks S Pen Screen Warning On Galaxy Note 5,
After taking criticism for its S Pen design flaw in Note 5 and its subsequent response, Samsung has decided to react with an idiot-proof warning label.
The Note 5 earned praise for its prowess but soon enough users began reporting a flaw in the stylus design that left the S Pen jammed in its slot, affecting some of the phone's features. Samsung drew flak for asking users to read the manual which warns against inserting the S Pen the wrong way.
Techno Buffalo reports that new Galaxy Note 5 units now come with a prominent sticker on the screen warning against incorrect usage of the pen.
"Be sure to insert your S Pen with the nib pointed inward. Inserting the S Pen the wrong way can cause it to become stuck and can damage the pen and your phone," the warning reads, according to The Verge. It remains to see if the warning would be effective even after the sticker's removal.
Drawing comparisons with Note 3, users had pointed out that the flaw in design allowed the stylus to be inserted both ways into its slot. The Galaxy Note 3 featured a stylus which could only be inserted the right way.
If the Note 5 S Pen is stuck, efforts to forcibly retrieve it can cause the mechanism to jam and the stylus to break, users have reported. According to Apple Insider, some users have suggested inserting a strip of paper six inches long to the wrap the stylus sticking outside the phone and sliding it into the slot for safe retrieval.
