Weekly Sex Romps Secret To Happiness?

Contrary to popular belief, more sex is not necessarily merrier, a new study claims.

According to Toronto Star, researchers from University of Toronto Mississauga have claimed that couples who report having sex more than once a week are not any more happy than couples who have sex just once a week. However couples reported being less happy if they had sex less often than a week.

"Although more frequent sex is associated with greater happiness, this link was no longer significant at a frequency of more than once a week," lead researcher Amy Muise said in a press release. "Our findings suggest that it's important to maintain an intimate connection with your partner, but you don't need to have sex everyday as long as you're maintaining that connection."

To arrive at their findings, researchers used data from the General Social Survey carried out by University of Chicago between 1989 and 2012. The finding of association between frequency of sex and happiness is not causal and was made based on data from couples.

With their findings researchers may have shattered several myths including the one about men wanting more sex and older people have less sex; their findings did not differ by age, gender or duration of relationship. The study however showed that sex is more strongly associated with happiness than money.

All that said, researchers believe that there is no universal answer for 'how much' but that couples should discuss their sexual needs and determine if they are being met.
