To provide PlayStation 4 gamers a taste of its legacy games, Sony is working on an emulator that allows PS 2 games to run on its latest generation consoles.

According to TIME, Sony recently launched a Star Wars legacy bundle along with PS 4 that includes Super Star Wars, Star Wars: Racer Revenge, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, and Star Wars: Bounty Hunter. The release accompanied little fanfare that left gaming experts wonder about the quietness of the move given that the console maker could have earned appreciation from its loyalists.

PS 2 games launched for PS 3 in the past were well received given that some of the best-selling games of all time were made for the PS 2 which remains one of the highest selling consoles.

The PS 4 was launched without backward compatibility which Sony is likely to address with the new emulator.

"We are working on utilizing PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 games forward to the current generation. We have nothing further to comment at this point in time," a Sony representative reportedly told WIRED through email.

It cannot be ascertained how gamers can get the emulator to function on their consoles or if users can simply run a PS 2 disc after a system update but the news of backward compatibility ought to make fans happy.
