30 Million PlayStation 4 Sold by Sony
Sony on Wednesday announced that the sale of PlayStation 4 video game has crossed the 30 million mark as of November 22nd, as the price cuts for enhancing year end holiday shopping encouraged demand. PlayStation 4 was released in 2013 and has been one of the fastest selling consoles by Sony, said the Japanese electronics manufacturer. In March, it hit the 20 Million console mark. The console also helped Sony make the highest second quarter operating profit in the last 8 years, as reported by Reuters.
Even though Microsoft has not revealed the Xbox One sales figures, it is speculated to be about half of what PS4 sold since its launch in 2013. PS4 and Xbox One both came around the same time in 2013. SCE global chief executive Andrew House said in a press release, "We are sincerely grateful that gamers across the globe have continued to choose PS4 as the best place to play since launch two years ago." Sony posted a profit of almost $1.0 Billion that it attributes to PlayStation and the weak yen for improving the finances of the company, says IBN Live.
Sony said the "PS4 continues to demonstrate the fastest and strongest growth in PlayStation hardware history". By the end of this fiscal year in March 2016, the company is planning to sell as many as 17.5 Million units of the console. Xbox has not released a clear number of units since sold in the release of its latest earnings. Meanwhile, Nintendo Wii has sold 10.73 Million units as of September 30th. The sales of Sony's PS4 can be attributed to the holiday season in Europe, Japan and U.S. that was further amplified due to price cuts to keep the momentum going, as reported by CNBC.
