Faith and Science Together Solve the Problem of Climate Change

It has been almost 25 years since majority of countries came together for a common cause and signed the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. They together agreed to cooperate in "limiting dangerous anthropogenic [human] interference with the climate system." This December, all these countries have deigned to meet in Paris to attend the 21st Conference of the Parties or COP21 to discuss how to go about accomplishing the goals that were set a quarter of a century ago.

Over the years, the climate science has seen paradigm shift. Our climate models used globally are able to fine tune even the smallest details. Even our satellites are able to expose the remotest part of the world. Our understanding of the ice sheets and deep ocean currents has also increased in this time frame. However, making scientific progress is not the answer to the global problem. The diplomatic argument in the nations across the world does not care about how well science is progressing, it needs answers to the problems and how they are going to prevent the danger. It is more to with our values than the facts, reports Scientific American

For most people in the world, matters of the heart are related to the faith and this year with COP21, religious leaders have been seen stepping up to take the mantle of responsibility and treat the issue. An encyclical released by Pope Francis in June clearly states what the attitude of 2 billion Christian Community across the world should be. It speaks about how the poor are suffering due to impact of climate change in terms of drought, floods and heat waves and other extreme temperatures. Even the Islamic Declaration on Climate Change came forward and blamed the man's relentless pursuit for economic gain as the reason why this world is suffering from climate change. They urge their 1.6 billion Muslims to contribute towards the global action, as reported by PBS.
