Facebook Extends Paid Leave Benefit To New Fathers
Facebook has announced that all new parents can avail 4 months paid leave, marking a major change in policy to benefit men.
According to ABC News, the move comes just days after Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced he would take two months paternity leave after the birth of his daughter. Paid leave was earlier being granted to mothers. By extending the benefit to men, Facebook hopes that fathers and men in same-sex relationships can also benefit.
"In reviewing our parental leave policies, we have decided to make this change because it's the right thing to do for our people and their families. Studies show that when working parents take time to be with their newborns, outcomes are better for the children and families. For too long, paid baby leave has been granted only to a mother who is giving birth. We believe that fathers and mothers alike deserve the same level of support when they are starting and growing a family, regardless of how they define family," Lori Matloff Goler, vice-president HR, said in a Facebook post.
