Did Google Want To Make Monocle Wearable Glass?

Google may have intended for its second iteration of Glass to be a monocle, a new patent accorded week indicates.

According to CNET, the US Patent and Trademark Office accorded Google a patent that describes a glass with a screen that sits on one eye. The device sits on one side of the face and can adjust to different heads, while being able to recall the configuration. Though the screen sits above one eye, a prism could provide display to the other eye.

The first version of Google Glass was highly anticipated but did not prove to be a success. It raised privacy concerns and led to attacks on users.

The patent describes a wearable device that offers just about what the first Glass did. Given its design, it could have suffered from the same shortcomings. Glass was shelved earlier this year.

Though Google has not spoken about the patent, it is highly unlikely it could have been Glass's next version, TIME reports. The patent was filed in 2012, much before Glass was launched; Google would not have had enough time to learn from mistakes it made with Glass.
