Chinese Space Robot To Eat Space Junk, Convert It Into Fuel

There's a new kind of waste and garbage that is littering the world---in space!

Even as an increasing number of countries are launching expeditions into space, they contain the "orbital debris" that are hazardous to spacecrafts. There are at present over 500,000 pieces of debris, with speeds that could exceed 17,500 mph, according to NASA's report

In order to clear up the garbage, Chinese researchers have proposed a plan to start a new kind of space robotic technology that could sweep it off.

It is an interesting concept by the researchers at Tsinghua University in Beijing. It visualises a machine gobbling up space junk and transforming it into fuel powering its garbage collecting mission. The machine that can "digest debris" with the help of laser technology will grind junk into fine powder that gets converted into fuel again. This plan is posted in arXiv.

The Chinese space vacuum idea comprises a tiny robotic technology that will not only "eat" debris but also use the ingested waste to power its mission, according to HNGN.

However, in this case, the machine can help to eliminate "space junk" only that is more than 10 cms. The new idea involves vaporizing orbital debris with a laser ablation, reported MIT. The space vacuum can enhance the laser technology option to see that the space above the earth's orbit is cleared up completely.
