Lawsuit Against Wen Haircare Products For Causing Baldness
Scores of women have taken up cudgels in court against Wen Hair Care alleging that the company's products are responsible for hair loss and baldness.
According to NY Daily News, more than 200 women across 40 states have impleaded into a class-action lawsuit against the haircare company. The lawsuit alleges that the products worsened hair loss within weeks even as other women took to the internet to claim they noticed bald spots and posted pictures of their scalp. Wen products, including Cleansing Conditioner, were blamed. Wen has a long-list of celebrity endorsers including Brook Shields and actress Alyssa Milano.
"I had been using WEN for five months when I noticed a bald spot the size of a half dollar at the crown of my head.. I nearly passed out," a reviewer wrote according to NY Daily News.
The lawsuit has been filed in a California Federal Court against celebrity hairstylist Chaz Dean who sells the products and infomercial firm Guthy-Renker that markets it, reports NBC News.
Ever since news of the lawsuit broke, Wen customers have been taking to several websites to air grievances.
"I have been using Wen for at least two years maybe even longer. I have very thick hair over the course of the last couple of years, I did notice that my hair was getting thinner and an area on my scalp seemed to have lost more hair. Also my scalp did feel itchy after using the products. I asked my hairdresser a few times if it looked like my hair had thinned. I never thought it could be from the Wen products. Since reading what other consumers experienced I stopped using Wen about two weeks ago. I did notice that hair was still coming out after I stopped," said a complainant from New York.
The law firm representing the petitioners has not revealed details about the lawsuit stating that mediation efforts are underway between the parties.
