A deadly site has been found by archaeologists in China.

About 131 hanging coffins in the Hubei province on a cliff, in the Moping township of Zigui county, were discovered.

Now this marks it out as one of the "largest hanging coffin tomb sites" discovered in China so far, according to The Hindu.

The coffins were found in a cliff that is 50 meters wide and 100 meters tall, with each one placed in either man-made caves or natural rock tunnels.

These interesting coffins were left behind by the Tang Dynasty about 1,200 years ago and created by the Bo people, an ancient tribe in southwest China.

The ancient funeral custom products of this, as well as other southern ethnic tribes, have been carved from single pieces of whole wood into diverse shapes. They are placed in cave openings on beams hanging outward from "vertical cliff faces" or on rocks jutting out from the mountains.

This is just one of the many sites that have been discovered in China, a few dating back by 3,000 years. The most recent one was just 1,500 years old.

It is not really clear how these sites were located in such high altitudes, according to the Daily Mail.

Zhao Chenggang, the deputy head of the Moping township, declares that the government has put the region under its special protection, as a cultural site.
