ASPCA Rescues 50 Dogs From Abysmal Puppy Mill
One cruel puppy mill was raided, and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) salvaged more than 50 English bulldogs and schnauzers who were suffering in an illegal puppy mill at Oscoda County, Michigan, reported CBS News.
This breeding facility was illegal, and the dogs' health did not get as much attention as the money that could be made out of them, reported CBS Local Detroit. For eight hours, the Oscoda County officials searched and rescued the dogs.
The conditions were horrible. While they got very little food and water, many were kept in cages arranged on top of each other. Most of the dogs were stuffed in the cages, while many remained unsocialized and afraid. A number of dogs were already ready for sale.
"These dogs were living a very sad existence. While the puppies at breeding facilities are sold for profit, their parents are often kept there for years, subjected to incessant breeding and typically lacking routine veterinary care and basic socialization, resulting in a very poor quality of life. Our goal is to remove these dogs, help them become healthy, and find them homes once custody is determined by the court," said Tim Rickey, the vice president of ASPCA Field Investigations and Response, according to Up North Live.
After the rescue, luck is expected to turn for the puppies, as they get love and care in the ASPCA shelters.
