Split Screen Technology May be Introduced by Google with Android N
Split screen may finally make its way into Android soon with its Android N, the next big update of operating system by Google. Pixel team from Google said in a Reddit As Us Anything session that a split screen may be in the works while revealing company's other big plans, reported Tech Times. Andrew Bowers, Director for Consumer Hardware, while replying to a question about split screen feature said, "We're working on lots of things right now for N that, of course, we wish we had, you know, yesterday. But we'd spoil the surprise of N if we shared all of them. Split screen is in the works!"
Even though Bowers' response didn't prove any link between Android N and split screen, however, since it is a big change, it is safe to say that it will be introduced with a huge update such as Android N. It is too soon to say if the feature of split screens will work across multiple devices or not, according to Gadgets NDTV
The new Android N is already at development stage. This strikes as odd because the latest version of Android, 6.0 Marshmallow is yet to be rolled out properly and is not even there on the smartphones yet and the new version is already said to be in process. A huge new update means that there will be a lot of new features including the split screen and a lot less bugs. "We're working hard on a range of enhancements for Android in this form factor," says Android and Chrome UX director Glen Murphy. "There are many things, like multi-window, that we've been spending a lot of time on - hopefully we can share more about this soon." It sounds like we'll have to wait till Android's next major "N" revision to see multitasking improvements, however, reports The Verge.
