Study Reveals How Reindeer "Fly"
Reindeer flying through the sky is wonderful in fairytales and looks like magic. But does physics have anything to do with it?
It just might, according to scienceworldreport.
The truth is that reindeer don't have wings. But they do jump long distances. Is that the explanation as to why they are surmised to jump half the world?
Actually, at about four feet, Santa's reindeer are most probably domesticated caribou from the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard. While the females weigh about 220 pounds on average, adult males are over 260 pounds. Jumping would be too shattering for these heavy reindeer.
Some wondered whether they emit some kind of particles in order to keep them aloft and keep them moving at fast speeds.
They might, however, reindeers do not have such amazing particles. So is it possible that technology has equipped them with special harnesses that can be "switched" to accelerate particles below them to such an extent that they can be propelled into the air?
It is possible. This particular technology would also have to be installed into Santa's sleigh, in which, presumably, the control panel for it is situated.
Such particles need to be kicked into incredible speeds, and current particle accelerators, according to Wikipedia, are shrinking, so still too large for it to happen.
So what about another kind of technology?
Negative mass is the most likely explanation. This is a hypothetical state in which all the properties of a particle are the same, while only their reaction to certain forces is different. One push on negative mass could make it fly in the opposite direction. The reindeer might turn their mass into negative mass in order to make them go flying into the air. Hence, if a type of negative mass field is connected to their skin, air pressure would propel them forward. And the ability to turn the air molecules around them to negative mass, would propel them upward.
This technology, therefore, would also have a link with the harnesses and sled.
It is not clear why, if this technology is being used, the reindeer should be incorporated at all. The reindeer perhaps "use fine-tuned movements" that navigate the sleigh, and find it to be better than artificial intelligence.
Hence, if the reindeer does fly, then you can surmise that is it all about particles---apart from your own imagination.
