New York's December Heat Creates An Un-traditional Christmas
This year, the New York Christmas is unusually warm, with temperature records getting broken multiple times. It has been a disappointing day for those who wanted a traditional White Christmas.
Just after midnight, the city is said to have shattered a record high of 63 degrees that was set in 1996, according to meteorologists. Even as the mercury climbed to 72 in Central Park, it was about three degrees below the high temperatures that had been noted on the Fourth of July.
"It's very crazy," said National Weather Service meteorologist Carlie Buccola. a National Weather Service Meteorologist. "It looks like it will be the warmest December on record."
The strangely warm weather has had its influence on a number of businesses. A golf course in Buffalo did not shut down. About 115 golfers had booked time at the course, according to Reuters.
Another holiday adventure business offering sleigh rides in Maine is facing a different kind of scene. While their sleigh rides take place over 2 feet of snow, this time, they will be on wheels within the inland dirt paths.
New Yorkers are reported to be very disappointed at the dramatic change in the traditional image of a White Christmas.
