Hold your breath and open your eyes wide on New Year's Eve to take a look at Sirius, the brightest star in the sky. It will blaze just before the birth of 2016, according to scienceworldreport.

Sirius, found in the constellation Canis Major, the famous Dog Star pattern, will be easily visible to earthlings.

Now Sirius can be translated to mean "sparkling or scorching". Check out the bright, prominent Belt stars of the constellation Orion, whose Belt always directs to Sirius.

Being at its highest point in the sky at midnight every New Year's eve, it is called as the 'midnight culmination' of Sirius by astronomers. In the New Year then, Sirius will be at its highest point, especially at midnight, so you can see the star at the peak of midnight,, or midway between sunset and sunrise every year on New Year's Eve, explains earthsky.
