Falcon 9 Rocket from SpaceX is all Set to Fire-up Again, Says Elon Musk
SpaceX, spacecraft manufacturer, created history when they successfully launched and landed its Falcon 9 rocket. The video doing the rounds of the internet is nothing short of a scene straight out of a Michael Bay movie. Even though this iconic rocket is back home, safe and sound, its journey is far from over. In fact, the SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said that if all goes according to the plan, the rocket will be sent again. On New Year's Eve, Musk tweeted an image of the proud rocket, Falcon 9, adding that there's "no damage found," and that it's "ready to fire again," as reported by MTV News.
After the successful launch of 21st December, in a conference call with the reporters, Musk stated, "We'll probably keep this one on the ground, because it's kind of unique. It's the first one that we've brought back," he said. "We'll confirm through tests that it could fly again." It is unclear if SpaceX will use the same aircraft again but if the company plans to reuse the rockets, they can save a lot of money. According to Musk, a new rocket such as Falcon 9 costs $60 million to build but only $200,000 to refuel, said Manufacturing.net
This Falcon 9, however, will most likely not take the flight again. SpaceX wants to preserve their precious rocket in a museum, said Musk. But the company does have plans to re-fly booster in the future. "We have quite a big flight manifest, and we should be doing well over a dozen flights next year," Musk said during the Dec. 21 teleconference. "So I think, probably sometime next year, we will aim to re-fly one of the rocket boosters," as reported by Space.com
