Netflix to Make an Entry into Indian Market to Tap the Bollywood-Crazy Country
Finally, India is all set to get its own Netflix after years of vying enviously towards the video streaming service. The operations have been launched on Wednesday and the plans start from Rs. 500 per ($7.50) per month. As soon as the announcement was made, the company shares went up y 5.5%, closing at $113.60 in trading early afternoon. The news confirmed speculation that has been going on for months with regards to its service in the second-most populated country in the world. The company is also set to offer plans priced at Rs. 650 and Rs. 800, announced its website, reported Reuters.
The company has pushed its availability aggressively in new markets as it aims to achieve its target of 200 countries by the end of 2016, as the slump in growth back home is putting pressure on the company. Users will be able to access Netflix via an app on their smart TV, on their videogame consoles, a smartphone or tablet, or a streaming player, said Gadgets NDTV.
On-demand movie plans, video streaming service and other services will now be available in 190 countries. If you are wondering how Netflix will be using your internet data, then according to the documentation made by Netflix, an HD streaming of videos can use up to 3GB data in an hour and SD video will consume as much as 300MB to 700MB per hour. The Indian pricing is similar to US where Netflix starts from $7.99 that converts to Rs. 530 approximately. The streaming service is being used by more than 70 million homes all over the world and is available through variety of devices that include web, apps, TVs, gaming consoles, media players etc. as reported by Indian Express
