WhatsApp Crash on New Year’s Eve Upsets Users
As the world was gearing up for celebration around the world for upcoming new year, many WhatsApp users faced connection problems on New Year's Eve. Users from various parts of the world were highly dissatisfied that their messages were not being delivered to the recipients on New Year's Eve, reported News24. Users thought that it is something wrong with their phones or network until the company spokesperson confirmed about the breakdown. "Some people have had trouble accessing WhatsApp for a short period today [Thursday]; we're working to restore service back to 100% for everyone," the spokesperson was quoted by News24 as saying.
The problem reported was that the application was unable to connect to iOS and Android on mobile data or Wi-Fi. According to Daily Mail, WhatsApp service started fluctuating as it crashed after every 45 minutes. When the users opened the chat, they would see the word "connecting" instead of their contact's name. Meanwhile, if any user tried to use the service, they got an error message "WhatsApp Web requires a working internet connection, which you don't have at the moment." Many users also complained about their inability to reply to the message.
While the messaging service did not clearly identify the source of the problem, technical experts speculated that it is the spike in the messaging traffic that could have led to the crash in its servers. Frustrated users took to Twitter to allay their anguish. One user posted, "WHATSAPP ISN'T WORKING" and posted a video of a Chewbacca smashing its guitar repeatedly. Another user, however, tweeted, "I'm glad Whatsapp broke down cuz now I have an excuse for not replying to people." WhatsApp has more than 900 million users in iOS and Android platforms. The users send more than 10 billion messages daily by using the app, said Fierce Mobile IT.
