A new round of Apple rumors is wafting and this time a camera upgrade is the subject. Reports suggest Apple could include a two-camera lens in its iPhone 7.

According to Value Walk, a patent for the two-camera system has been filed by Apple that can let users simultaneously shoot high resolution videos and images. Though this feature was first introduced in iPhone 5, users had to compromise quality and speed if they attempted to use the phone's camera for the purpose.

Besides the simultaneous use of the cameras, the new feature will allow optical zoom which means changing focal lengths without cropping pixels.

"[Imagine] capturing a child extinguishing candles on a birthday cake...In some embodiments, second camera module 3084 can be used as a telephoto camera module to zoom in on the face of the child as she is about to blow out the candles and first camera module 3082 can capture a burst of high resolution still images of her smiling face," Newsledge quoted from the patent describing the dual camera technology.

"In some embodiments, first camera module 3082 is simultaneously capturing standard 1080p 30 frames per second video of the entire group of kids gathered and singing around the cake...As the two camera modules are synchronized in time, the still images can easily be automatically inserted at the right time in a final video stream."

Other recent reports have claimed Apple is doing away with the headphone jack, including a bigger battery and making the iPhone 7 thinner than its predecessor. Additionally, it could also be water-proof and could feature as much as 256 GB of storage.
