New Hydrogen-Powered Smartphone Batteries Might Last A Week
A futuristic smartphone battery can last for a week if you buy from United Kingdom's new company after two years.
Intelligent Energy has signed a development agreement with an unnamed smartphone company to develop a hydrogen fuel cell battery, reports BusinessWire.
In about two years, the battery might hit the markets.
The new battery mixes hydrogen and oxygen in order to fuel the smartphone. It will emit just heat and water, says Bloomberg. Hence, any smartphone using the technology would require small vents on the device, so that the water vapour can escape.
The 'emerging operator' as described by Intelligent Energy, is putting up $7.6 million for the development of the battery.
Eco-friendly cars also use similar technology, even though the smartphone batteries are on a smaller scale, reports The Daily Mail reports.
"We believe embedding fuel cell technology into portable devices provides a solution to the current dilemma of battery life and with consumers demanding more and more from their phones, battery innovation has not kept up," acting manager director Julian Hughes said. "What we offer is a solution that is clean and efficient and means consumers could be truly mobile and free from the constraints of the grid."
