Zombie Apocalypse Clause Added by Amazon in its Terms and Conditions
According to the latest addition to the online retailer's terms and conditions, should United States ever be subjected to zombie apocalypse, humans are allowed to use the new open-source software so that they can build 3D video games that can run autonomous vehicles or medical equipment. "The Lumberyard Materials are not intended for use with life-critical or safety-critical systems, such as use in operation of medical equipment, automated transportation systems, autonomous vehicles, aircraft or air traffic control, nuclear facilities, manned spacecraft, or military use in connection with live combat," the terms and conditions read.
If the walking dead ever become a reality, the developers can use the open-source software to operate nuclear weaponry or to power autonomous vehicles. "This restriction will not apply in the event of the occurrence (certified by the United States Centres for Disease Control or successor body) of a widespread viral infection transmitted via bites or contact with bodily fluids that causes human corpses to reanimate and seek to consume living human flesh, blood, brain or nerve tissue and is likely to result in the fall of organised civilization," reported News.com.au
The free software gives the game developers an ability to create virtual environment for the characters that they create. However, developers are prohibited from using Lumberyard in other different situations. The Lumberyard materials can only be used in accordance with the company's policy. However, this restriction will only be lifted if CDC declares that there has been a zombie outbreak, says Independent
No details have been provided by Amazon as to how exactly will the gaming system will be integrated with combat systems or spacecraft. Diane Patterson, the first person to notice the exemption, said that perhaps "Amazon knows something we don't", USA Today reported
